Fire on the Ground: Explore the Benefits of Prescribed Burns
Fire on the Ground: Explore the Benefits of Prescribed Burns
Rock Spring Meadow
Saturday, November 11, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Stop by Rock Spring Trailhead for a chance to speak with Marin Water staff and AmeriCorps members about the use of prescribed fire, an important tool in a proactive approach to fire fuel management and a more resilient, ecologically healthy watershed. Safely burning off overgrown vegetation is a natural, efficient and cost-effective way to maintain and restore forest health and protect water quality, our water delivery infrastructure and the community.
Marin County Fire Department, in coordination with Marin Water, recently conducted a prescribed fire operation in the Rock Spring area on the southern end of the Mt. Tam Watershed. See the effects of this prescribed fire application first-hand and learn about its role in our long term forest health strategy.
You can also take our new self-guided walk that will lead you through forest, grassland, serpentine and the historic Mountain Theatre in a 1-mile interpretive loop. Whether for a hike or a water refill, come out to learn about the benefits of using prescribed fire to promote resilient forests and protect our watershed. We look forward to seeing you there!
