Marin Headlands
Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 10am – 2pm
Every year thousands of raptors move down the Pacific coast as they head to wintering sites as far away as South America. A large percentage of these birds pass through the Marin Headlands where they are annually documented by the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory (GGRO). We’ll start the day with a walk in Rodeo Valley learning to identify these birds and discussing their life histories, then we’ll drive up to Hawk Hill for more raptor viewing and to meet GGRO Director Allen Fish who will discuss the work of this amazing volunteer-based organization. Walking distance: 2 miles. Elevation change: 95'. Remember to bring lunch, and binoculars if you have them. No pets (except service dogs) are allowed. Be sure to check the calendar two hours before the event to confirm the status. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel.
Registration is required. Use the automated system to sign up or cancel; event leaders do not manage registration.

Directions: Meet at the Miwok Trailhead on the east end of Rodeo Lagoon. From Hwy 101, take the exit for Alexander Ave and follow the signs to the Headlands. Follow Bunker Rd (through the tunnel) and continue west down the valley 2.9 miles. Park in the dirt lot on the right, just beyond the bridge at the top of the lagoon.
