Family Walk: Blackstone Canyon

This secluded valley below the rugged east end of Big Rock Ridge is a great place to look for animals that are attracted to the creek. We’ll take a slow walk exploring the wet places in the canyon to see who’s hiding there. Total miles: 1.5. There’s little elevation change but the trail is narrow in spots and we’ll be crossing a small stream. Remember to bring lunch. No pets (except service dogs) are allowed. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel.

Directions: Meet at the end of Valleystone Dr in San Rafael. From Highway 101 in San Rafael take the Marinwood St Vincent’s Dr exit, west on Miller Creek Rd 0.3 miles. Turn right onto Las Gallinas Ave 0.4 miles, then left onto Blackstone Dr 0.2 miles. Stay left and follow Valleystone Dr, park at end.
